Installation Guide
Installation Guide
Professional painter and decorator Phil Beckwith recently installed and reviewed our 55" Baby Pink Glitter Wallpaper, sharing his honest, hands-on experience from start to finish.
In the full video above, Phil walks through the entire installation process, including wall preparation, handling the wallpaper, adhesive application, and finishing techniques. This makes it a clear, up-to-date guide for installing Glitter Walls wallpaper. Whether you’re a professional installer or a confident DIYer, the video offers practical, real-world advice based on an actual installation.
Below, you’ll also find a shorter video showing older installation methods. This is provided as a quick visual reference only. As Phil explains in the full video above, overlapping and double-cutting seams are no longer required when installing our current fabric-backed glitter wallpapers.
Our most important recommendation
While experienced DIYers can successfully install our wallpaper, we strongly recommend using a professional wallpaper installer to achieve the best possible finish.
Inspect before installation
Before installation, carefully inspect all wallpaper panels to ensure there are no issues with the glitter finish or fabric backing. Once wallpaper has been cut, pasted, or installed, we are unable to accept returns or consider claims on materials that have been altered in any way.
If you identify a fault before installation, please contact info@glitter-walls.com and include clear photographs so we can assist you promptly.
Pro Tip:
Always inspect the entire length of each drop before hanging — not just the first few feet.
Adhesive recommendation
Due to the weight and fabric-backed construction of our wallpaper, we recommend using a heavy-duty, professional-grade wallpaper adhesive suitable for thick or commercial wallcoverings.
A widely used option in the United States is Roman PRO-838 Heavy Duty Clear Wallcovering Adhesive, which is designed for heavyweight, fabric-backed, and specialty wallpapers.
Roman PRO-838 is supplied ready to use and should not be diluted or altered. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application and drying times, and ensure the room is well ventilated during installation.
You can find Roman PRO-838 available on Amazon.com.
Pro Tip:
Do not hang into wet adhesive — allow it to become fully tacky for stronger grab and easier positioning.
Wall preparation
Once materials have been inspected, prepare the wall carefully. Surfaces must be clean, dry, smooth, and free from dust, grease, loose material, or imperfections.
All existing wallpaper should be completely removed. Walls should be uniform in color before hanging. We strongly recommend applying a primer/sealer or stain blocker, especially when installing light-colored wallpapers, to prevent discoloration or bleed-through and to achieve a consistent final appearance.
Pro Tip:
A properly sealed wall provides more even tack and helps prevent future shade variation.
Heat and pipework check
Before installation, check walls for hot water pipes or heat sources. Poorly insulated pipes can generate heat that may cause discoloration over time.
If pipework is present, ensure it is adequately insulated before hanging the wallpaper.
Pro Tip:
If unsure, allow the wall to cool completely before installation — a simple hand check will usually tell you if residual heat is present.
Applying adhesive
Apply the heavy-duty wallpaper adhesive evenly to the wall using a roller, with a brush for edges and corners. Allow the adhesive to dry until it becomes tacky to the touch.
Take care to ensure adhesive does not come into contact with the glitter surface of the wallpaper at any point.
Pro Tip:
Keep hands, tools, and surrounding surfaces clean to avoid transferring adhesive onto the glitter finish.
Hanging the wallpaper
For best results, we recommend working with drops approximately 8–10 feet (2.5–3 meters) long, depending on ceiling height. Roll out each drop and inspect again before hanging.
Always hang wallpaper in the same direction. Hanging drops in different directions can cause subtle shade or appearance variations — a common and costly installation error.
Hang the wallpaper directly onto the wall, allowing an overhang of approximately 1.5–2 inches (4–5cm) at the top and bottom. Once positioned correctly, leave the drop in place for around one hour to allow the adhesive to set. You may begin hanging the next drop during this time.
Prepare the next drop and butt it tightly to the previous one, carefully aligning edges so seams are minimal and nearly invisible.
Pro Tip:
Snap a true vertical plumb line for the first drop — never assume corners are square.
Trimming and finishing
Once the wallpaper has set and is dry to the touch (approximately one hour), carefully trim excess material at the ceiling and base using a sharp utility knife for a clean, precise finish.
Pro Tip:
Change blades frequently — dull blades can snag the fabric backing or leave rough edges.
